Is a man’s skin different from a woman’s?

Are you one of those men that steals your girlfriend’s skincare? You might be using a product that is not appropriate for your skin and for that reason, might have no effect. What are the main differences between a man’s and a woman’s skin? Let’s have a look:

  1. Texture

On a superficial level, the texture of a man’s skin is very different from a woman’s. A man’s skin texture is rougher and its layers are also thicker. Although, their thicker dermal layer is actually more sensitive to environmental conditions than thinner female skin. Male skin is also more sensitive to ultraviolet radiation, as Dr Camacho, (MD, voluntary assistant professor of dermatology at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine) mentioned.

  1. Hydration

Puberty prompts the appearance of facial hair and boosts sweat secretions. That means men are more prone to develop large pores and related problems such as acne and secondarily scarring from acne.

  1. Thickness

According to the  Dermal Institute, a man’s skin is around 25% more solid than a woman’s. A man’s skin tends to gradually thin as he ages, whereas of a woman’s remains relatively the same until menopause. So, it’s never too early to start taking care of your skin boys! 😉

  1. Collagen Density

In any age, men tend to have a higher collagen density than women. Researchers concluded that for this reason, women appear to age faster than men of the same age.

Shaving gives men an extra edge in skin care

Shaving intensely exfoliates the outer skin layers which can lead to a more youthful skin look. On the other hand, it can also irritate and cause more ingrown hairs or bumps on your skin if you’re not careful.

Treating a man’s skin

Even if a man’s skin appears to be tough and resilient, he may still have internal issues or be surrounded by environments that sensitize him. Therefore, it might be time for you to get your own products and start figuring out your morning and evening skincare rituals. We are here to help!
