Why is SPF important for your skincare routine?

…or how to protect your pale skin when the coronavirus emergency will be over, and you’ll be back enjoying your outdoor activities.

Since we will likely spend the beginning of spring at home (although hopefully, the situation will improve sooner), when all this will be over your skin will not be prepared at all for sun exposure.

We already imagine our Tribe members running across the city, going hiking to the mountain, playing every kind of sport outside just to enjoy the sun and…coming back home with a nice sunburn. But Qaveman has your back, we are working on our new face cream with an SPF 15 factor inside!

So, let’s start discovering more about SPF.

1) What does SPF mean?

SPF stands for Sun Protection Factor. This number indicates the ability of sun filters to protect against UV rays emitted from the sun. According to The Skin Cancer Foundation, there are two different kinds of rays: UVA and UVB.

UVB rays make up 5% of the ultraviolet radiation that reaches the earth. They have a lot of energy and, although they are responsible for your beautiful tan, they also cause sunburn, allergic reactions and skin cancer.

The remaining 95% of the ultraviolet radiation on the earth’s surface is composed of UVA rays. They can pass through clouds, glass and skin (whoa!) and, unlike UVB, are painless (this means that you don’t develop a sunburn). They are responsible for skin aging, allergies, and skin cancer.

That’s why it’s important to protect the skin from both UVA and UVB rays. This kind of sunscreen is called broad-spectrum.

But what does the SPF number mean?  The Skin Cancer Foundation explain us that “the SPF number tells you how long the sun’s UV radiation would take to redden your skin when using the product exactly as directed versus the amount of time without any sunscreen”.  In other words, using Qaveman Face Cream SPF 15 it would take you 15 times longer to burn than if you weren’t wearing it.

2) WHO SHOULD USE THE SPF FACE CREAM?

Everyone! Men and women should use sunscreen every day to protect their skin from the action of radiation.

But it can be difficult to remember to apply sunscreen on the days you’re not going to hike or doing outdoor activities. Maybe you are just planning a drink with your friends after work in that outdoor café…

Well, we have the solution for you: everyday face cream with SPF! Qaveman made it easier adding sun protection directly into your skin-care routine. This way you don’t need to remember to apply an extra product but just to apply your usual cream every morning.

3) WHY IS IT IMPORTANT TO WEAR IT EVERY DAY?

Wearing SPF is very important for preventing skin cancer and the aging process. According to The Skin Cancer Foundation, wearing sunscreen protection every day can highly reduce your risk of developing some type of skin cancer up to 50%. Moreover, it can “help prevent premature skin aging caused by the sun, including wrinkles, sagging and age spots”.

4) HOW DO YOU APPLY A CREAM WITH SPF?

The best practice is to apply the face cream SPF in the morning at least 15 minutes before going outside to allow the sunscreen to bind to your skin. Remember that the sun’s UV radiation reaches the earth even when it’s cloudy.
